I've been following this battle intently since the beginning – and don’t really know why. Partly it’s because I can’t figure out why Microsoft is so passionate about HD DVD – to the point that it has invested billions in what most insiders knew was always a loser – but failed to do the one thing that could have changed the playing field - building the drive into the X360. It’s not like MS to do anything halfway, and they could have afforded the losses much easier than Sony faced with Blu-Ray – so why not invest a little more and go for the clear win? I own neither format, making me one of those just waiting for a winner to be decided.

 

Maybe this last announcement will be the final nail in HD DVD’s coffin.
